LT MATT HURTT COMMANDING OFFICER U.S. COAST GUARD CUTTER, HALIBUT

The United States Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach runs from Dana Point to Morro Bay. It is an extremely busy sector with many different Coast Guard assets deployed here. Missions include interdiction and apprehension of drug traffickers and human smugglers, search and rescue, boating safety, port security, and other tasks.

Our speaker this month will be USCG LT Matt Hurtt, Commanding Officer of the 87′ Coast Guard cutter HALIBUT, homeported in Marina del Rey. LT Hurtt, a native of Old Lyme, CT, graduated with honors from the Coast Guard Academy in 2012 with a B.S. in government. LT Hurtt’s first assignment was as the Weapons Officer aboard USCGC THETIS, homeported in Key West, FL.

He then served as Executive Officer of the 110′ USCGC ADAK, homeported in Manama, Bahrain. The ADAK is one of six forward deployed USCG patrol boats supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
